Biomedical Engineering Society at UC Davis Make-a-Thon Support Fund

Gifts support the Biomedical Engineering Society's 12th annual Make-A-Thon, a three-day design and innovation competition that provides over 80 undergraduate biomedical engineering students with hands-on experience in computer aided design, prototyping, and problem solving. Contributions foster academic growth and community engagement, while also preparing students for their future in industry.

Make-A-Thon is a 72-hour interdisciplinary design competition where teams of up to five students collaborate to develop innovative solutions to real-world medical challenges. Throughout the event, participants engage in the complete product design process—from conceptual brainstorming and CAD modeling to prototyping and final presentation. This hands-on experience mirrors the workflow of the medical device industry, preparing students with practical skills in design thinking, teamwork, and engineering implementation. Currently, only three teams are able to bring their designs to life through prototyping due to limited funding. Additional financial support would allow more teams to access materials and industry resources necessary.
