This fund was established in honor of the Class of 1976’s 50th reunion. The Class of 1976 Public Interest Award Fund is intended to celebrate the remarkable range of public interest careers pursued by members of the class in the decades since their graduation from King Hall. Members of this class have gone on to serve as public defenders, government lawyers, nonprofit leaders, environmental advocates, and judges, exemplifying King Hall’s broad and enduring commitment to public service.

The Fund provides stipends to current King Hall students working for nonprofit or governmental agencies over the summer, allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experience in public interest law. Because so much public interest work is unpaid, this funding is essential: it enables students to accept meaningful summer placements—with legal services organizations, district attorneys’ and public defenders’ offices, federal, state, and local government agencies, environmental nonprofits, and the judiciary—without having to forgo that experience because of financial barriers. Support from this fund will help sustain a pipeline of King Hall graduates equipped to carry forward the same dedication to public service that has defined the Class of 1976’s legacy.
